Jaeger-LeCoultre - Master Minute Repeater Venus and Master Grand Tourbillon Continents
The oldest and most delicate of the decorative arts no longer hold any secrets for the Grande Maison in the Vallée de Joux. Enamelling, engraving and gem-setting are a set of virtuoso crafts that it associates at will in its horological and artistic creations. A splendid embodiment of the love of fine details that has always characterised Jaeger-LeCoultre, the art of miniature enamel painting dedicates its absolute beauty to highlighting the watchmaking feats of the Manufacture – one of the rare brands to enhance its wristwatches with the full range of traditional fine watchmaking embellishments.
In 2009, the artists of the Manufacture, who cultivate very special ties with this exquisitely refined ornamental technique, wished to present a full-fledged anthology of their talent by offering two exceptional series illustrating two traditional enamel techniques – grand feu and champlevé enamelling – on two famous timepieces in the Jaeger-LeCoultre collection: the Master Minute Repeater and the Master Grand Tourbillon
The goddess of love, the muse of the Master Minute Repeater
In order to provide a particularly ‘striking’ demonstration of its expertise, the Manufacture has chosen to treat the dial of the Master Minute Repeater to a stunning interpretation in the form of enamelled miniatures of four famous historical paintings depicting Venus, the goddess of love. These works stem from a variety of sources of inspiration encompassing the Italian Renaissance, the Spanish school of art and French classicism, as embodied by the famous examples selected by the master-enamellers of the Manufacture: ‘The Birth of Venus’ by Botticelli; ‘The Venus of Urbino’ by Titian; the ‘Rokeby Venus’ by Velasquez and ‘Venus Anadyomène’ by Ingres.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Pavonia
In an unprecedented challenge, Jaeger-LeCoultre has made in enamel one of the most exclusive piece of art on the case of a Reverso watch, which can be worn on the owner wrist as part of a watch!! The swivel case of the reverso allowed its owner to decorate it and gives him the absolute assurance of possessing the most complete artistically decorated work one could imagine.
A private British art collector who owns an incredibly valuable Lord Leighton original oil painting called ‘Pavonia’ wanted to personalize his Jaeger-LeCoultre reverso watch. This piece of art, one of his most precious paintings, as part of his private collection, is rarely seen in public. (The last time was at the Royal Academy in celebration of Lord Leighton’s work over a decade ago.) He asked to the Manufacture if it was possible to have a duplicate of the painting recreated on the case of his favorite watch with an Enamel.

NIVREL watch found working after years in the ocean near the British Virgin Islands
Once again a diver found a NIVREL watch on the sea ground. Because it was still working, Mr. Christopher Juredin decided to send it back to NIVREL – in order to find the real owner.
Christopher Juredin is a professional diver from the British Virgin Islands. He owns a commercial diving company and scuba diving operations and usually dives in the harbours around the Caribbean. As a commercial diver, he also enjoys looking for lost objects and often finds many things from historic rum bottles to vessel propellers.
One day late in the year 2008 he was working under a cruise ship doing ship husbandry. He was looking for a propeller and systematically worked back and forth on a rope spool in 65 feet of wa-ter around 10 foot visibility and with around 300 feet of search line. The bottom was thick mud and turtle grass and there was lots of traffic from the charter companies’ vessels overhead. Looking at the sea ground, he noticed a watch strap sticking out of the mud. He pulled it out and had a NIVREL automatic alarm watch in his hands. His first thought was to leave it behind as he did not see it move, however he decided to keep it. When he surfaced back on the boat he wiped it off and it started to work. It worked periodically for a couple of days, then stopped.

Bell&Ross INSTRUMENT BR 01 AIRBORNE
Aeronautical instrumentation is the absolute reference point in terms of readability, reliability and performance. This is why Bell & Ross designers have worked together in order to reproduce a cockpit dashboard clock on the scale of a human wrist… This is how the instrument-watch was born. From the BR 01 to the Heritage and BR 03 Type Aviation, the evolution of the Bell & Ross Instrument collection closely follows that of aeronautical instrumentation. The new BR 01 AIRBORNE model is directly inspired by a historical military symbol and is the most unique watch in the BR 01 collection.
The BR 01 Airborne is an anthem to the extraordinary saga of military paratroopers. This new watch is a tribute to those brave young men who fought in one of the toughest army corps, particularly the US Airborne divisions.
The Airborne divisions were born during the Second World War. They were the first to be exposed to danger and the first ones to face death. Their most famous motto was “Death from Above” symbolised by a skull that was a reminder to them of both their power and vulnerability. Since then, the symbol has spread to other military regiments. It is often embossed on uniforms patches or on fighter planes. The skull is a constant reminder of the omnipresence of death on each military mission. By wearing the skull, the soldiers are attempting to both defy death and intimidate the enemy.
The BR 01 Airborne reinvents the notion of the talisman, and personifies the very spirit of these outstanding men. It is a genuine tribute to the noblest of military values as well as to the bravery of soldiers who face death on a daily basis to defend their country. (Bell&Ross press)
