The Swiss premium watch maker Cuervo y Sobrinos is again sponsoring the Tour de España, the most important classic automobile rally in Southern Europe that was staged in Andalucía from 2 to 7 November.
The race started in Jerez and end in Malaga, passing through Ronda, Marbella, Antequera and Granada. The one hundred participants, from all five continents, travelled some 1,500 km, competing in 14 special mountain time-trials and three races on the Jerez, Ascari-Ronda and Guadix circuits.

The list of cars participating represented a gathering of models from highly prestigious marques such as Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lancia, Aston Martin, Porsche and Jaguar, turning the competition into a ‘catwalk’ of value beyond calculation.
The major innovation this year was the inclusion of pre-war racing cars manufactured prior to 1945 which will compete in an exclusive category of their own.

The 6th Nuit de l’Horlogerie organised by the magazine Exel on 20th November welcomed some 1300 guests who had come to discover the models presented by 26 watchmaking brands. The Grand Prix du Public, in the category “Gentlemen’s watch” was awarded to the Aero Bang Gold Ceramic. As for the Big Bang Purple Carat it won 2nd prize in the category “Ladies watch”.

Associated with zai, the Graubunden-based manufacturer, in the production of an exclusive new ski, Hublot today switched to winter time, and presented the “Hublot All Black” ski, a symbol of fusion of unusual materials. An “All Black” ski inspired by the concept of tone on tone of its now legendary Big Bang.

The skis were unveiled to the press today by their manufacturer, Simon Jacomet, and Jean-Claude Biver, Hublot’s CEO. Inspired by the fusion of materials, which is the very concept behind Hublot watches, these skis are the result of a combination of carbon fibre, fibreglass, steel, rubber, and Graubunden stone (gneiss). The rubber is used for the ski’s upper coating, which gives it its soft, matt aspect – similar to the watch straps. As far as glide is concerned, these skis are designed to enable fluid movement while maintaining a dynamic and elastic handling which guarantees the skier exhilarating sensations!

The dial of the SONATA SILICIUM is cut out of a silicium wafer in its striking natural color; so too is the logo inlay on the winding rotor visible through the exhibition sapphire back of the case.
The movement runs with a 28’800 A/h oscillator and an anchor escapement etched out of silicium. This escapement is the result of a research program which ASRH (Association Suisse pour la Recherche Horlogère – Swiss Association for Horological Research) conducted and in which Ulysse Nardin participated. Both the anchor and escapement wheel are manufactured of silicium.

Daniel Roth has been awarded the prize of watch of the year 2008 in the “up and coming brand” category at the “Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie” in Mexico

For the second year in a row, 22 of the biggest names in watchmaking took part in the Salon Internationale de la Haute Horlogerie which took place from the 23rd to the 25th September in Mexico City.

This prize was awarded by a jury made up of 8 influential individuals who are internationally renowned in the watchmaking world. Daniel Roth won the prize with the Papillon Chronographe, presented at Baselworld earlier this year.

On Thursday 13th November 2008, Juan-Carlos Torres, Vacheron Constantin’s CEO, received the Jury Prize in the “Men’s Watch” category for its new model the Quai de l’Ile Day-Date & Power Reserve Self-winding.

The award was made in front of an audience of 2000 people at the Grand Théâtre of Geneva. In his reception speech on behalf of the brand, Juan-Carlos Torres said: 

“By its decision to give first prize for the Men’s Watch to Vacheron Constantin for its Quai de l’Ile, the jury of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie of Geneva has rewarded and honoured the brand’s innovative and pioneering spirit, a spirit that is still intact after 250 years of accumulated savoir-faire.
